Hans Gerson (1947) has been appointed Chairman of the Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP) promotional association by the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce . The former Director of the Port of Amsterdam took up his new role at the start of August, succeeding Peter Swelheim who had been Chairman since May 2006.

From 19 to 23 August, SAIL Amsterdam is held on and around the IJ river. This event is held every 5 years, it is the largest event in the Netherlands which is open to public. Highlight of this event is the impressive traditional parade from IJmuiden to Amsterdam featuring over 50 tall ships, naval ships, replicas and modern yachts. Hundreds of ships will accompany the procession on its way to mooring places along the IJ river. The impressive SAIL fleet will be accompanied by an extensive sports and cultural program. Every day during SAIL, there will be all kinds of activities at various locations which are free to the public.

Maiden call MS Switzerland in Alkmaar
|
|
June 11th, the MS Switzerland called on Alkmaar for the first time. A special event, due to the fact that it was the first time a river cruise ship with this length (100 meters) visited the town of Alkmaar.
A official welcome was organized to celebrate this festive event. The mayor of the city of Alkmaar handed over a special plaque of the city to the captain of the MS Switzerland, to commemorate this first call. The captain had the honor to ring the bell to open the traditional cheese market in Alkmaar, which is held every Friday from April to September.

Ten opzichte van 2009 verwacht promotieorganisatie Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP) een lichte stijging van het aantal aanlopen bij zowel de Passenger Terminal Amsterdam als de Felison Terminal in IJmuiden. Ook de vijftien ‘maiden calls’ geven de burger moed. Daarnaast ontwikkelen de riviercruises zich stormachtig met ruim 1100 aanlopen in 2010, een absoluut record. Dit bleek tijdens de opening van het cruiseseizoen in het fraaie Convent Hotel in Amsterdam, waar ook de Noord-Hollandse gedeputeerde Jaap Bond aanwezig was.

Een bijzondere gebeurtenis, omdat dit de eerste keer is dat een schip van deze lengte Alkmaar aandoet.

Op het fraaie riviercruiseschip Viking Sky van rederij Viking River Cruise AG is op woensdag 15 april in Hoorn de feestelijke aftrap gegeven voor de nieuwe promotiecampagne ‘Riviercruise- en Motorchartervaart Noord-Holland’. Samen met de provincie en negen gemeenten wil Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP) de komende drie jaar extra publiciteit geven aan deze boeiende sector. Dit gebeurt onder andere via een informatieboek met toeristische informatie voor buitenlandse bemanningsleden van riviercruiseschepen, een promotiefilm over Noord-Holland, seminars en workshops, sales missies naar rederijen en een toeristische kaart voor de gasten aan boord van riviercruise- en motorcharterschepen. Hierdoor moet het aantal aanlopen in Noord-Holland in de periode 2009-2012 met minimaal tien procent omhoog.
