In 1969, Mr. Arthur Frommer, a famous travel writer, publisher and consumer advocate from America, build his first hotel in Amsterdam. Twenty years later the hotel was sold to the Accor Group, and became the first Mercure Hotel in the Netherlands. In March 2009 the hotel existed for 40 years and during the years a lot has been changed in the hotel. Recently the hotel was totally renovated. In the beginning of 2008, all bedrooms, bathrooms and corridors were renovated. All 93 (luxurious) rooms have their own sphere and differ in size. In the beginning of 2009 the bar, breakfast restaurant and lobby were renovated as well. Authentic details were kept and the sphere of the hotel is a pleasant combination of the past and present. It is one of the most beautiful three-star hotels in Amsterdam.
