Passenger Terminal Amsterdam

The cruise market in Northwestern Europe is booming. The Netherlands is the ideal starting, finishing or stopover point for a
European trip; not at least because Schiphol International Airport is one of Europe’s most important. Amsterdam is one of the
most popular destinations and therefor often the starting or finishing point of a cruise. It also features as a stop for cruises to
northern Europe and the Mediterranean. Amsterdam is already attracting 100,000 ocean cruise visitors per season and 60,000
river cruise passengers.

New Passenger Terminal
Since the brand-new Passenger Terminal Amsterdam has become operational, the attraction of Amsterdam for cruise ships
has greatly increased. This applies to both the passengers and the cruise operators.

The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is the middle point of a sparkling new center at the head of the Oostelijke Handelskade in Amsterdam. The impressive building is made largely of glass in the shape of a whale. The large reception hall on the first floor, where cruise passengers arrive and depart, has a beautiful view of the city and the IJ River. Because of its flexible construction, the hall can be used for conference and exhibitions in the winter season. Roof terraces bind the terminal with a yet to be constructed hotel and music center. Food and beverages and shopping facilities for tourists and the general public will be situated in the terminal. The facilities become more exclusive, the higher they are situated in the building. An arrival and departure hall for tour vehicles on the ground floor, two huge parking levels for private cars and nearby docking for sightseeing boats complete the whole.

Today’s cruise ships can be handled more smoothly, which means that passengers can be offered a higher level of service and more enjoyable experience. In addition, increased numbers of larger ships can now be handled in an effective manner.
